Transit Advertising Goes Above and Beyond the Traditional

Taking Shelter

Bus shelters and benches at bus stops target transit riders and non-users (pedestrians and motorists) alike. However, all shelters are not equal. While the purpose of a shelter is basically the same - to provide shelter to passengers - the various users of a shelter have different performance characteristics that they look for when evaluating such a product.

Transit advertisers need a product that allows for fast and easy copy changes. They are also often responsible for the repair and maintenance of the shelter and look to purchase a product that is field friendly and generates the lowest infield cost.

On the other hand, cities and transit authorities are concerned with the look of the shelter - its curb appeal. They strive to enhance the aesthetics of their communities.

Dion McGuire, president of shelter manufacturer Daytech Limited, spoke recently of some of his company's product innovations currently under development that will help both advertisers and transit properties meet their desired goals.

"In response to a customer survey performed late last year, and in an effort to provide a new look to North American streetscapes Daytech has embarked on a new shelter design which is currently in the prototype stage with production expected to start this fall. The new design will incorporate leading edge materials and modern aesthetics, while retaining our traditional qualities surrounding infield practicality and quality of the highest standard,"

The company is also working on a new interior and exterior scrolling sign. The new sign incorporates multiple copy panels and has the ability to be controlled remotely over a wireless connection or the Internet.
